What’s the Weather Like When Traveling to the Virgin Islands?

The Virgin Islands are situated just east of Puerto Rico in the northern Caribbean. Most of the islands are volcanic in origin and are quite rugged with some peaks over 1500 feet high. They are divided into the U.S. Virgin Islands to the west and British Virgin Islands to the east. The largest islands include, Saint John, Saint Croix, Saint Thomas, Tortola, Anegada, and Virgin Gorda.

Many smaller islands are part of the Virgin Islands also. The Atlantic Ocean borders the Virgin Islands to the north and Caribbean Sea to the south. This area is sometimes affected by hurricanes with the greatest threat during the height of hurricane season from mid August into October.

The Virgin Islands are grouped in the same general region, so rainfall does not change appreciably from one island to the next. The wet season is a result of increased tropical activity mostly in the form of tropical waves. The heaviest rains are from September through November in which five to six inches of rain occurs on average each month. The dry season runs from late winter into early spring. Rainfall amount of about two to three inches occurs February through April.

Temperatures also are not much different from one island to another. Average summer high temperatures are in the upper 80’s to near 90 degrees. Morning lows are generally in the mid 70’s. Winter temperatures are slightly cooler with average high temperatures in low 80’s with lows in the low 70’s.

Travelers going to the Virgin Islands will find a mild climate all year. Temperatures do not change much during the year with the most pleasant readings during the winter. Lesser rainfall amounts coincide with the slightly cooler temperatures during the late winter and last into early spring. Travelers are advised to stay updated with latest tropical weather information if traveling during the hurricane season.

Picture powder soft white sand beaches, tropical marine life wrapped in the soft caress of a warm sea, candlelight dinner under blankets of stars, sun filled days, exceptional cuisine, wealth of water sports and scuba diving in warm tropical waters, pure relaxation and some of the most unbelievable sunsets you will ever experience in a life time; the islands of Mexico offer unbelievable vacation paradises!

There are idyllic island retreats in Mexico; some of them are very famous world wide. You never get tired of white sand beach, azure sea, or the typical Caribbean to-do’s.

Now, many people think that booking a vacation on an island is limitative, but it is not entirely true.

Some islands of Mexico, as Cozumel, have endless attractions and wonder to live! Some of them are considered strategic points to visit the surrounding areas; others Mexican Islands instead are for people looking for secluded and intimate spots, silence, total peace and relax; others have both things. Perhaps you just need a moment’s privacy between lovers to rekindle a romance as the waves roll gently onto the shore? Maybe you dream of a nature lover’s treasure trove as seabirds soar high above? Your ideal could include clam-digging fun for the whole family … or a solitary moment reflected in a tidal pool. All these departures from the everyday are possible on the islands of Mexico.

Here, below, you have a brief description about the most famous Islands of Mexico

Cozumel Island

We can start with the most famous one and the biggest island of Mexico, Cozumel!
Just 30 minutes with the ferry from Playa del Carmen, Cozumel lies in front of the Mayan Riviera.
With a Mexican spirit and a Caribbean essence, Cozumel is a paradise where tradition, flavor and joy come together. You will always find a friendly face and a warm welcome to make your stay an unforgettable one. Famous all over the world for its coral reefs, there are plenty of water sports in Cozumel that has positioned itself as a leading world direction of the tourist diving for many years. The attractions on Cozumel Island are plentiful, so your vacation in the Riviera Maya could include anything from diving, snorkeling, kayaking, cultural tours, shopping and much more.

The hotels in Cozumel range from luxury all inclusive resorts to small hotels beach front.
In Cozumel offer endless activities for families, divers, golfers, honeymooners and much more…

Holbox Island

If you prefer a more relaxed vacation pace, consider the island of Holbox!

A typical Mexican island, located to the northwest of Cancun, Holbox Island is just 26 miles long. Holbox is separated from the mainland coast of Mexico by a shallow lagoon which gives sanctuary to thousands of flamingos, pelicans and other exotic birds and creatures.

Isla Holbox was settled by pirates who intermarried with local Mayans living in the area.

Holbox is considered a virgin tourist destination because the beaches are still empty and white, the song of the birds and the waves make the perfect ambiance for a relaxing vacation, and also, there aren’t cars on the island and most of all annoying noises… so, Isla Hoxbox is one of those fragile, precious places, and little gems like this are getting fewer and farther between every day. Fishing enthusiasts come here because it’s less known, but Holbox’s real claim to fame is its seasonal snorkeling tours to see whale sharks and manta rays!

Isla Mujeres

There’s an island in everyone’s dreams – a place for relaxing and recharging, for fun and sun, to experience or just to be. Isla Mujeres in Mexico, is a great way to escape the tourist crush in Cancun.

Isla Mujeres, the Island of Women is not populated with more, different or any other classification of women than you would normally find in Mexico; when the Spanish expedition landed, they found many female shaped idols representing the goddess Ixchel, thus Isla Mujeres got its name!

Isla Mujeres Snorkeling and diving are the two most popular activities of this island.

With an idyllic setting that is pristine, romantic and endlessly peaceful Isla Mujeres is the perfect tropical retreat for honeymooners and couples.
Isla Mujeres is surely the ultimate tropical island destination, enhanced by a cornucopia of beach resorts that know the true meaning of the word luxury.

There are numerous public ferries traveling from Cancun to Isla Mujeres and vice versa. Getting back and forth is no problem. Just make sure you check the schedule for return trips.

These are places where nature and nurture have worked in concert to enliven your senses – places where you can head out and explore or settle in and let the simple joy of a dreamy beach sweep you away. Places that inspire a tingle of romance to make its slow way up your spine, into your heart and into the arms of the one you love.

For a vacationer with a mind to escape life’s faster pace, there is snorkeling, scuba diving and sailing on the island of St John. If not solitarily soaking up the sun’s rays, vacationers can swim in the bay’s shallow waters and snorkel in the company of an occasional turtle and stingray among spectacular, colorful coral. Also just north of Cruz Bay, vacationers will find one of the prettiest shopping areas in the Caribbean, Mongoose Junction.

Whether coming to this tiny island for sunning, snorkeling, or even shopping, vacationers will find ample opportunities to enjoy all three and more on St. John. The island offers fully furnished vacation homes and villas, all with ocean views and breezes, some with pools, hot tubs, and air conditioning. St.John villas will suit any vacation style, equally luxurious and elegant in their own way, no other accommodations in the Virgin Islands can come close to what St John offers. Whether soaking up the sun on one of its many beautiful beaches, shopping in the downtown areas, touring historical sites, participating in local festivals, experiencing the adventure, enjoying the music and sampling the cuisine, vacationers have much to fill your days on the island.

THere are great things to do, places to see, private beaches, romantic mountain top views, day excursions to other islands, snorkeling spots, island bars, hiking trails, sunset spots, and much more. St.John today is recognized for its pristine beaches and conservation-minded residents who dedicate themselves to preserving the island’s natural and cultural resources.

St.John’s most famous beaches are strung together, fringed with tropical palms and sea grape trees. Visitors will have a chance to experience stunning beaches like Trunk Bay and Hawksnest. The island has numerous beautiful beaches where you can go hours without seeing another tourist. Also the island is littered with red roofed houses strewn about amongst rolling green hills with splendid views of beautiful white sandy beaches and crystal clear, turquoise waters.

St.John villas worth mentioning are found in Cruz Bay, a thriving town with a wide range of restaurants and bars. From luxury villas to affordable island homes, all offer commanding ocean views. St.John villas are often hidden in the most picturesque corners of the island so you can retain that sense that you’re getting away to your own private paradise. St.John’s villas are never too far away from a good restaurant or boutique. They are also convenient – often times the owners of caretakers of the villas meet you at the airport or dock and many even include car rental with a certain length of stay, allowing you to explore the island of St.John villas, making you feel like you’re right at home.

St.John is the perfect romantic setting for a most memorable vacation. From the most active to the most relaxed, you will be hard-pressed to find an island more beautiful, more peaceful, less crowded, or one inhabited by friendlier people. The scenery is the most beautiful I have ever seen. St.John is a jewel and with the island’s steep mountains covered in lush tropical forests, rimmed by white sandy beaches, and surrounded by beautiful turquoise seas, makes living very enjoyable. St.John, in the US Virgin Islands, is by far one of the loveliest, friendliest and most beautiful places in the world.

Here an apetizer about island vacations.

There is something about an island vacation that you won’t forget. Maybe it’s the perfect sandy beaches, the fantastic sunrises and sunsets, the ocean breeze and salt spray or that feeling of being completely away from it all. But all island vacations are not the same. You can holiday on islands in every ocean and near every continent and because of this they can vary widely.

You can chill out on a beach or at a spa, go whale watching or big game fishing, scuba dive or snorkel, explore coral reefs and see vibrantly colored exotic fish, go sailing or windsurfing, explore rainforests or go shopping at native craft stalls. The list is endless and you can choose your island vacation spot to suit you.

North American Islands include the Canadian East Coast Islands of Prince Edward Island and Newfoundland. Vacations in these areas will be filled with unspoiled natural beauty, cool and comfortable temperatures, and whale watching expeditions.

South of there is the little island of Bermuda, off the Eastern U.S. coastline. Bermuda is surrounded with hundreds of square miles of coral reef formations and so it’s perfect for scuba divers and snorkellers. The less adventurous can view the beautiful underwater coral and fish by glass bottomed boat. The shopping is also great here.

Heading further south, we find the Caribbean Islands. These have been popular vacation spots for a long time. The beaches are long, white and sandy and the weather is very warm. Up in the interior of these islands, you can find forest areas with a wide variety of birds and other wildlife. The islands include Jamaica, Barbados, the Virgin Islands and the Cayman Islands with many others providing their own unique flavor and feel.

There are plenty of islands in Europe which have been consistently popular vacation spots. If you visit the isles of Greece, you will see clear seas, quiet beaches, olive groves, and the simple life in some areas while others are more party oriented. The larger islands such as Corfu tend to be more popular with tourists looking for a more sociable vacation whilst Lefkas is popular with wind-surfers and sailors. The Portuguese island of Madeira boasts beautiful weather and gardens with one of the lowest crime rates in the world although there are no beaches on this island. The Canary Islands, off the coast of Spain, are a popular tourist spot for Europeans, particularly during the winter months of October to March.

An island vacation spot which is rapidly growing in popularity is the Maldives. These islands are set in the Indian Ocean and, with warm temperatures year round and luxurious resorts, are proving to be the best place to vacation in for families, newly-weds, adventure seekers and those looking for complete relaxation.

A new trend for island vacations is eco-tourism. This means traveling in such a way that neither the natural environment nor the local people are harmed. It can also include conservation projects such as turtle watching in Tobago or Cyprus. People who are drawn to eco-tourism may enjoy bird-watching, hiking, and other island activities that do not leave an impact on the area.

Everybody dreams of taking an island vacation as a stunning diversion from everyday life. There are islands all over the world, each offering it’s own cultural experience and natural wonders. Many spots for island vacations are still unspoilt and secluded, while others are lively and exciting. There is something for everyone – the choice is yours.
