Here an apetizer about island vacations.
There is something about an island vacation that you won’t forget. Maybe it’s the perfect sandy beaches, the fantastic sunrises and sunsets, the ocean breeze and salt spray or that feeling of being completely away from it all. But all island vacations are not the same. You can holiday on islands in every ocean and near every continent and because of this they can vary widely.
You can chill out on a beach or at a spa, go whale watching or big game fishing, scuba dive or snorkel, explore coral reefs and see vibrantly colored exotic fish, go sailing or windsurfing, explore rainforests or go shopping at native craft stalls. The list is endless and you can choose your island vacation spot to suit you.
North American Islands include the Canadian East Coast Islands of Prince Edward Island and Newfoundland. Vacations in these areas will be filled with unspoiled natural beauty, cool and comfortable temperatures, and whale watching expeditions.
South of there is the little island of Bermuda, off the Eastern U.S. coastline. Bermuda is surrounded with hundreds of square miles of coral reef formations and so it’s perfect for scuba divers and snorkellers. The less adventurous can view the beautiful underwater coral and fish by glass bottomed boat. The shopping is also great here.
Heading further south, we find the Caribbean Islands. These have been popular vacation spots for a long time. The beaches are long, white and sandy and the weather is very warm. Up in the interior of these islands, you can find forest areas with a wide variety of birds and other wildlife. The islands include Jamaica, Barbados, the Virgin Islands and the Cayman Islands with many others providing their own unique flavor and feel.
There are plenty of islands in Europe which have been consistently popular vacation spots. If you visit the isles of Greece, you will see clear seas, quiet beaches, olive groves, and the simple life in some areas while others are more party oriented. The larger islands such as Corfu tend to be more popular with tourists looking for a more sociable vacation whilst Lefkas is popular with wind-surfers and sailors. The Portuguese island of Madeira boasts beautiful weather and gardens with one of the lowest crime rates in the world although there are no beaches on this island. The Canary Islands, off the coast of Spain, are a popular tourist spot for Europeans, particularly during the winter months of October to March.
An island vacation spot which is rapidly growing in popularity is the Maldives. These islands are set in the Indian Ocean and, with warm temperatures year round and luxurious resorts, are proving to be the best place to vacation in for families, newly-weds, adventure seekers and those looking for complete relaxation.
A new trend for island vacations is eco-tourism. This means traveling in such a way that neither the natural environment nor the local people are harmed. It can also include conservation projects such as turtle watching in Tobago or Cyprus. People who are drawn to eco-tourism may enjoy bird-watching, hiking, and other island activities that do not leave an impact on the area.
Everybody dreams of taking an island vacation as a stunning diversion from everyday life. There are islands all over the world, each offering it’s own cultural experience and natural wonders. Many spots for island vacations are still unspoilt and secluded, while others are lively and exciting. There is something for everyone – the choice is yours.
